Mihai Tudose designated Romania's new prime ministe

President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, has appointed outgoing economy minister Mihai Tudose as Prime Minister and thus paved the way for the formation of a new leftist Social-Democrat-led government in that country. The 50-year-old Tudose now has 10 days to gain the vote of confidence in his government and his programme.

The Social Democrat Party filed a no-confidence motion in ex-Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu last week, accusing him of delays in implementing reforms in the European Union's second-poorest country. Romania is the largest of the Balkan countries and has a coastline on the Black Sea. Romania got admitted into NATO and in 2007 it joined the European Union (EU).
