PM flags off Kochi Metro

With Metro Man and rumoured NDA candidate for President E Sreedharan by his side, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kochi's first metro rail service from Palarivattom station. Kochi city will be the first one in the country to have a water metro - a feeder service to the rail metro. Kochi metro will extensively use solar panels across the rail lines to meet 25 percent of electricity from solar power. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is the first government agency to hire transgender people. It is the longest metro corridor (13 km) being completed within a span of four years, a national record.
London underground is the oldest metro established in 1890, spread 402 km and 270 stations. Shanghai metro ks the longest metro (588 km) spread across 364 stations.
